Antique Hunting
We all like to find bargains, and these itineraries give you the opportunity of doing just that. Whatever your budget or taste there is something here for you, whether it be for top of the range antique furniture, silverware, porcelain or for specialist items and collectables. Bric-a-brac shops are great fun, and good buys can be found amongst the junk.
In England, Michael would suggest Camden Passage and Bermondsey
markets in London and the provincial antique centres of Horncastle
and Helmswell, both in the County of Lincoln. The little town
of Hay-on-Wye, on the English / Welsh border is a mecca for antique
books. Europe's larges antiques and collectors fair takes place
at Newark in Nottinghamshire.
In France the obvious choice is the Marché aux Puces at the
Porte de Clignancourt in Paris. The term flea market isn't really
accurate as this exciting collection of boutiques houses a vast
range, catering to all tastes and pockets. In the 18th district
of Paris we find the auction rooms of Drouet-Nord. This isn't
a top of the range auction house, but a good place for bargains
with the excitement of bidding for them. The Louvre Antiques Centre
is in the heart of Paris and is up market, offering beautiful
pieces in perfect condition. Picardy is one of France's least
visited regions and there are many good antique shops and "brocante"
stores offering reasonable prices. Michael will be pleased to
negotiate prices for you. He doesn't take any commission from
any shop or enterprise, and is working solely in your interests.
